Dr. Sweetman received both his DDS and orthodontic degrees from the University of Texas at Houston. He began private practice in Denton in 1990 after 15 years as an orthodontist and general dentist in the US Air Force. While in the Air Force, Dr. Sweetman treated complex, surgical, orthodontic cases and served as the orthodontic instructor for the residency program at Barksdale AFB, LA.

Professional memberships include the American Association of Orthodontists, Southwestern Society of Orthodontists, American Dental Association and Texas Dental Association. Prior to joining Apple in 2010, Dr. Sweetman was a partner at Orthodontic Associates of North Texas in Denton.

Dr. Sweetman spends his free time with his family and studying American history and political economics.
