For children, teens and adults
For Children
It’s best for the orthodontist to see children by age 7 to advise if orthodontic treatment is required and the best time for that patient to be treated. The first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in by that time and cross bites, crowding and other problems can be evaluated.
When treatment is begun early, the orthodontist can guide the growth of the jaw and incoming permanent teeth. Early treatment can also regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, gain space for permanent teeth, possibly avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce the likelihood of impacted, correct thumb-sucking, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems. In other words, early treatment can simplify later treatment.
At Apple, all of our young patients benefit from receiving the best orthodontic products and most advanced technologies available to improve results, reduce treatment time and increase comfort.
For Teens
Even though most teens are motivated by the outcome of wearing braces—a beautiful smile—there are other important reasons for them to get the orthodontic care they need. Without it, they’ll have problems with their teeth for the rest of their lives. Crooked teeth are hard to clean and their gums will hurt. Their teeth will wear unevenly. They won’t be able to chew their food correctly. They may also develop breathing problems like snoring and sleep apnea. Braces may help avoid these health issues. In addition, tongue piercings move teeth over time. Routinely pushing the stud up against the front teeth creates a gap that must be closed by braces.
You may also consider an orthodontic check up for a teenager that doesn’t smile in an effort to hide crooked or crowded teeth. Over time, this sense of embarrassment can lead to bouts of depression and low self-esteem. Many teens report improved self-confidence and a boost to their overall sense of well-being once their braces come off and they can show off their beautiful, new smiles.
Orthodontic treatment has come a long way since the days of heavy, metal wires and brackets that were associated with the “nerd factor.” Today’s teens can choose metal or ceramic braces; 100% customized Insignia® braces; nearly invisible, removable Invisalign® appliances or lingual braces that attach behind the teeth. At Apple, they’ll all enjoy the benefits of the finest orthodontic products and the most advanced technologies available, including GAC’s In-Ovation bracket systems which improve results, reduce treatment time and increase comfort. Apple also performs routine oral surgeries, including wisdom teeth extractions, that are a standard component of orthodontics.
For Adults
Orthodontic treatment can be successful at virtually any age, and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over twenty-one. We routinely treat patients in their 40′s, 50′s, 60′s and even their 70′s!
In some cases, jaw surgery may be required for adult orthodontic patients since their jaws are no longer growing. Adults may also have experienced some deterioration or loss of their teeth and bone that supports the teeth. This bone loss can limit the amount and direction of tooth movement and may require periodontal treatment.
